Crohn’s Disease is part of the family of illnesses known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD. Crohn’s can be found in any part of either the small or large intestine, and irritates not only the lining, but also deeper into the tissue layers.

Crohn’s disease may occur at any age including young children, but is most commonly diagnosed in young adults under the age of 30. Although it is common in family groups, you can develop Crohn’s with no family history.

The trigger for Crohn’s is unknown at this time. The immune system becomes active against the individual’s own system which causes damage in the intestine, and occasionally other organs like the skin, eyes, or the liver.

Crohn’s Disease should be treated by a specially trained gastroenterologist. Make an appointment today if you or a loved one are having symptoms of Crohn’s, such as abdominal bloating, nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, unexplained fever, and tiredness.
